The Importance of Art in African Culture
Africa has a rich tradition which goes back over two centuries. This is reflected in the art and craft prodution which spans the continent. Behind ever piece produced, there is a story to tell. A substantial part of African history is based on oral tradition and this has been preserved mostly through sculptures, figurines and masks. What began centuries ago as part of tribal rituals, inititations, and ceremonies lives on today. At Twin Brothers Gallery, we make a point of explaining the history behind our art as best and as accurately as we can. For easy reference we have divided our pieces into three categories: Antique pieces in their original form, Commercial pieces and Copper Art pieces.
